Shared workspace is so much more than simply its physical environment. Some emphasize their collaborative community culture. While others serve as vibrant mixed-use spaces with hot desks and networking events. And, this being Colorado, some are dog-friendly.
The coworking movement now boasts over 1,100 spaces worldwide, per DeskMag, with some of the most innovative spots hailing from Colorado.
The Upstart conducted its own second annual cultural snapshot of coworking spaces with a fun but very unscientific poll designed to help prospective cubical refugees find a new home.
In just one year, there’s been significant changes in the coworking sector.
In our first survey, This American Life’s Ira Glass was deemed the patron saint of local coworkers. Now, Steve Jobs (as both cultural icon and Christmas tree topper) rules the roost.
We also found a close synergy developing between coworking spaces and other entrepreneurs with in-house cafes and free craft beer, coworking alliance discounts and open office hours with experienced startup founders and investors.
Last, collaborative learning is at a high point in the local coworking sector. Spaces have stepped up their participation in Meetups, Skillshare, Dabble and have even launched their own technical training programs via gSchool and Davinci Coders.
