1. What question about startups do you get asked most often by founders?
How do I raise money?
2. What question do you actually wish founders would ask?
How do I manage risk? How do I build products that people love and are willing to pay for? How do I make huge progress with limited resources?
3. What’s missing from the Denver startup scene to support founders?
We moved the CaptainU HQ from Chicago to Denver about 8 months ago. In Chicago, there are a few incredible catalysts that have brought the startup scene together — Excelerate, 1871, which is run by the Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center (one of CaptainU’s early backers), and BuiltinChicago. With Galvanize and BuiltinDenver, hopefully we’ll have that catalyst in Denver.
There’s a sense in Chicago that a rising tide lifts all boats. It’s easy to find people who have been there and done what you’re trying to do. And generally folks make themselves very available. I advised lots of startups in Chicago and similarly got lots of advice from folks who have a lot more experience than I do. I’d love to see more cross-pollination like that in Denver.
